Privacy Policy

Maktab (“Maktab”, “we”, “us”) provides a school-management platform and the Maktab mobile apps for parents, students and school staff. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Each school that uses Maktab is the controller of its own students’ records; Maktab processes that data on the school’s behalf.
Information we collect
- Account information — your name, email address, phone number, role, and password (stored only as a secure hash).
- School records entered by your school — a student’s profile, guardians, attendance, fees and payments, exam results, homework, diary entries and similar academic information.
- Content you submit — messages to the school, payment receipts/screenshots, and profile photos you choose to upload.
- Device & technical data — a push-notification token (to deliver alerts), app version, device type, and basic log data needed to operate and secure the service.
How we use information
- To provide the service: show your children’s attendance, fees, results, diary, notices and messages, and let schools manage their students.
- To send notifications you have enabled (in-app, push, email, or SMS/WhatsApp).
- To process online fee payments you initiate.
- To secure the service, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information or use it for third-party advertising.
Service providers
We share limited data with providers strictly to run these features:
- Payments — Safepay processes online fee payments (cards, EasyPaisa, JazzCash).
- Notifications — Expo / Firebase Cloud Messaging (push) and SMS/WhatsApp providers deliver messages you’ve opted into.
- Hosting — our cloud hosting provider stores the data securely.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service to your school. You can delete your account at any time (see “Your rights”), after which your personal account data is removed. Student academic records belong to the school and are retained by the school under its own policies.
Children’s data
Student information is entered and managed by the school under its authority as part of its educational recordkeeping. Parents access only their own children’s information.
Security
Access is restricted by role, data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and passwords are stored only as salted hashes. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Your rights
You can view and update your profile in the app or web portal, and you can permanently delete your account at any time from maktab.pk/delete-account or in the app under Menu → My profile. To request access or correction of your data, contact your school or us at the address below.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
